People often don’t make time to repair their clothes, but they do find time to get tattoos. That’s why I merge these two concepts—turning the act of mending into a ritual that feels personal, meaningful, and worth making time for.
.
A form of socio-environmental activism inspired by the aesthetics of flash tattoos, merging ancestral embroidery knowledge with contemporary urban art in a quest to keep the culture of repair alive.
“Like conspicuous consumption—that is, using a product for a relatively short period before consuming it entirely or discarding it—a tattoo represents the antithesis of consumerist thinking,” wrote Davy Jones in 1967 in his unpublished essay, Tattooing as a Business. “It can neither be eaten nor thrown away. It is a gift for a lifetime to the recipient. In short, a tattoo is not a consumer good, just as a person cannot be replaced. And as such, the tattoo parlor, the tattoo business, is not and never will be big business.”
.
If tattoos represent the antithesis of consumerist thinking, fashion embodies its very essence. This is why I chose to create textile tattoos: a kind of oxymoron that aim to repair our relationship with clothing, and to weave emotional connections that replace the disposable relationship sold by fashion brands.

Textile tattoos transform, and re-signify clothing, encouraging care, extending the life of everyday items, and resisting planned obsolescence.
.
Grounded in materialist theory, I understood that repairing the objects around us transforms not only their physical form but also reshapes how we approach the act of repair in other context as social bonds and environmental issues.

el espacio crea el tiempo y el objeto el oficio.

esta es la historia del borrachero

probando nuevos materiales 🥁
.

I’m a Colombian textile artist and I created the idea of textiles tattoos as a way to create a more profound relationship between our clothes and us; to fight fast fashion and motivate mending.
